چکیده

In this paper we present a quantity-based model for integrated inventory replenishment and shipment consolidation decisions under vendor managed inventory. Assuming the vendor uses a special reorder point, order-up-to level, or ( , ) s S policy for inventory control and adopts a quantity-based dispatching strategy under stochastic settings, we build its simulation model. By simulating in Arena tool, the impact that different replenishment size and maximum inventory have on the long run average total cost is analyzed in a numerical experiment.

A Note on Stock Replenishment and Shipment Scheduling for Vendor-Managed Inventory Systems

Vendor-managed inventory (VMI) is a supply-chain initiative where the supplier is authorized to manage inventories of agreed-upon stock-keeping units at retail locations. The benefits of VMI are well recognized by successful retail businesses such as Wal-Mart. In VMI, distortion of demand information (known as bullwhip effect) transferred from the downstream supply-chain member (e.g., retailer)...

Integrated Inventory Replenishment and Temporal Shipment Consolidation: A Comparison of Quantity-Based and Time-Based Models

In this paper we present two models for joint stock replenishment and shipment consolidation decisions which arise in the context of vendor managed inventory. Stock replenishment from suppliers or shipment to customers each incurs a lump-sum cost to the vendor. We assume the vendor uses the reorder point, lot-size policy to replenish stock and one of two schemes to dispatch shipment: the time-b...

Situation reactive approach to Vendor Managed Inventory problem

In this research, we deal with VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory) problem where one supplier is responsible for managing a retailer’s inventory under unstable customer demand situation. To cope with the nonstationary demand situation, we develop a retrospective action-reward learning model, a kind of reinforcement learning techniques, which is faster in learning than conventional action-reward lear...

A review of Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI): from concept to processes

In the modern supplier–customer relationship, Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) is used to monitor the customer’s inventory replenishment. Despite the large amount of literature on the subject, it is difficult to clearly define VMI and the main associated processes. Beyond the short-term pull system inventory replenishment often studied in academic works, partners have to share their vision of the...

Improving Supplier’s Performance Using Common Replenishment Epochs in a Vendor-Managed Inventory System

This paper studies a single-product supply chain, in which the supplier needs to manage its own inventory to fulfill requests from a set of heterogonous retailers. The retailers’ requests are determined by the supplier in a fashion of vendor-managed inventory (VMI). Under a VMI arrangement, the supplier agrees to pay all the order setup costs and a portion of unit holding costs for the retailer...
